Porsche, sportscar maker extraordinaire, holds an annual event called Rennsport (German for ‘motorsport’) Reunion. It is what Porsche calls the ‘world’s largest gathering of Porsche racecars, drivers, and collectors’. Were you in that event, you would believe their claim.
Over at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, more than 1,000 Porsches were in attendance. Legendary drivers Jacky Ickx and Derek Bell were among the legendary drivers present. The big story, however, is the 20 Porsche 918’s in attendance. This is Porsche’s new hypercar. It packs 887 hp and was recorded to clock in at 2.4 seconds to 62mph by MotorTrend.
Video uploader Effspot had filmed 13 of the 20 918’s and they came in all the colors of the rainbow. He said if you add up the horsepower of the 13 918’s — 13, 918, a Fibonacci sequence gone bad — it would total 11,531 hp. I say nice grasp of the multiplication table — but why he did such thing is completely beyond me. So it totals 11,000+ horsepowers. Then what? 16,640 torques? That doesn’t really matter unless you are going to put all 13 engines and build a submarine. But even submarine engineers think that 104 cylinders and 26 electric motors is a bit too much. Because a Hemi V8 can produce 3,000 horsepower with just eight cylinders, one camshaft, and 16 valves.
Be mesmerized by the sexiness and the aural sensation by 13 4.6 litre V8 powered hypercars by watching the video.
