Like music and ice cream, petrol heads favor different flavors. There are people who swear by Japanese rice rockets. Drifters. Lovers of big burly pick-up trucks, fans of Monster Jam and Nascar. Americans. Then there are people who start drooling when they see classic muscle cars and hear big V8 burbles. Yours truly. And those who jump up and down with joy at the sight of supercars. Danny. Finally, those who love BMW’s no matter what. Me and Danny.
Then the absurd. Fellows who get stiff by seeing something weird or ungainly. This is the automotive equivalent of necrophilia. The picture you see here is an upside down 2001 Camaro. No, actually it is a Ford Festiva. This is Jeff Bloch’s idea of a wide body kit.
The car, if you can call it that, has been made emissions legal. Even so, the homeowners association said: ‘All Permitted Parking Areas shall be used solely for the parking of motor vehicles used for personal transportation.’ Maybe they thought it was really upside down. And it causes distraction. They want it removed like a dead body in a crime scene.
But Dave Montoya has been using his Festiva for personal transportation and will send a video of the car driving down the motorway. He told the association to bugger off.
Clearly not everyone is enamored by this idea. But if you are, I bet you also like German Pop music and Anchovy ice cream.
