I hate speed cameras and not because I have been caught (I have a clean license) just because speed is not a killer, safe drivers can drive at speed safely no problem its the idiots that can’t drive at slow speeds that cause the issues… anyway, I digress.
Within the last ten weeks, or so more than 500 motorists have received that dreaded letter that they have been caught speeding. However, what is the real pain in the ass is that they have not been caught thrashing it through a 30 or bumbling along in a 40 instead they have been caught on a damn motorway doing more than 70mph. In reality, nobody does 70mph except for the middle lane hogger or the “do-gooder” who thinks they are tip top at driving but can’t park in tescos without bouncing off parked cars.
You could comfortably cruise at 85mph with no problems from police or speed traps (yes they are traps).
When you saw the signs for “smart” motorways your first thoughts were probably wahoo… less traffic due to all these new signs etc… nope… the bastards are calling them smart because it is a smart way to steal motorists money.
There are at the time of writing this 211 miles of “smart” motorways in Britain and they have electronic message signs to vary the speed limit (catch you out), and there are speed cameras to enforce them. The authorities say that “smart” motorways reduce traffic congestion and make motorways flow better without adding extra lanes.
More and more motorways are being converted into “smart” motorways, and they recon in the next two years a lot more drivers who drive on the M25, M1, M6 and M60 will face prosecution for breaking the speed limit of 70mph. What a way to tax the motorist, it is an absolute joke that we could risk our livelihoods for the sake of momentarily breaking a 70mph limit. I am sorry for my rant but this is a good reason to leave the UK, European roads are a million times better.
You may have guessed speed traps piss me off but what really gets my goat is that these “smart” motorway cameras are not bright yellow, and there are not any warnings to drivers approaching the damn traps. These cameras are front and rear facing, and they are painted grey and are hidden but not only that they use two radars to make certain you are caught which also means there are not any white lines needed on the road.
Basically what I am saying is don’t bother going on a motorway because you may lose your license. If you like a little speed then I would hit the country roads while you can, at least they still paint these cameras yellow and you have half a chance of getting to your destination without having to pay a drivers tax.
(obviously I am not condoning speeding)
