Recently, i.e. in the last couple of days Tesla Motors released its version 7.0 software updates. These updates contained a new autopilot feature and Tesla Model S drivers have already started uploading the videos of how it’s working onto YouTube for the whole world to see.
The results we are seeing as you can imagine, are extremely different between responsible and informative to being absolutely bonkers and stupid. The legality of using an autopilot on the public roads is up for debate as well. However, Elon Musk explains his views on the autopilot situation in a video below…
I don’t think the autopilot system on the Tesla is there so you can sit back, relax, close your eyes and have a nap, but I do think it’s there to aid the driver and essentially make the driving a lot safer. I know how much cruise control eases the pressures of driving.
The Autopilot system is there to be overlooked by the driver, very much like a pilot would be doing in an aeroplane. I think it’s quite exciting, but I am a petrol head and I am concerned that we are going to take away the enjoyment of driving and replace it to be just a form of transport and not a hobby or something we use to enjoy.
What do you think about Tesla’s autopilot system and do you think is the future of driving?
